You never know what’s around the corner. It could be everything. Or it could be nothing. You keep putting one foot in front of the other, and then one day you look back and you’ve climbed a mountain.

LORENA MOȚOC
Lorena Moțoc is an Associate Lawyer at Gherdan & Associates, Romania’s first law firm dedicated exclusively to sports law. She joined the firm directly upon entering the profession, bringing academic grounding in law and a personal connection to the world of sport that makes her a natural fit for a practice built around athletes and the legal structures that govern them.
Lorena graduated from the Faculty of Law of Babeș-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca in 2025, having previously studied at a mathematics and computer science high school, a background that shapes her approach to legal analysis: structured, precise, and detail-oriented. She passed the bar examination in September 2025 and joined the Cluj Bar, beginning her professional career at Gherdan & Associates.
Her introduction to the legal dimensions of sport began during her studies, and joining a firm dedicated entirely to sports law from the outset of her career reflects a deliberate choice to develop deep expertise in a specialised field rather than broad generalist experience.
Sport has been a defining presence throughout her life. Lorena practiced competitive cheerleading for eight years, a discipline that combines athletic precision, team coordination, and the ability to perform under pressure. Those values translate directly into how she approaches her work: with discipline, commitment, and the understanding that the best results come from working well as part of a team.
Lorena can be contacted directly at lorena.motoc@gherdanassociates.com.
RECENT RELEVANT MATTERS:
- Obtained the suspension of a forced execution initiated by the Romanian Tax Authority (ANAF) against a professional football player in respect of outstanding tax obligations. The suspension was secured through civil court proceedings, allowing the player to protect his assets and regularise his tax position in a lawsuit, without the immediate enforcement measures taking effect.
- Successfully defended four first-instance rulings before the Appeal Commission of the Romanian Handball Federation, securing the rejection of appeals lodged by a sports club in disputes concerning the compensation owed to female athletes.
